Large, diverse and stable patient cohort
Some 2.6 million people live in Greater Manchester with demographics representative of all major world disease areas, ethnic groups and areas of considerable deprivation. Over one million patients per year are cared for across our eight hospitals and community services.
We are home to the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, one of the most comprehensive units in Europe offering an integrated academic and clinical service; an NHS England designated Genomic Medicine Centre; and the Medical Research Council Clinical Proteomic Centre. We undertake research across a diverse range of clinical areas, and manage around 800 research studies at any one time. When our partners choose to work with us, they benefit from all the research facilities that you might expect from a leading acute and tertiary healthcare provider, as well as the more specialist services that a Trust of our magnitude can provide.
The international quality of our research is recognised through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) accreditation of our clinical research facility and biomedical research centre (in partnership with The University of Manchester). The Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) designation, which we share with The University of Manchester and four other NHS partners, is also a quality stamp of our work. The multi-disciplinary team assigned to your research study will include a Quality Manager to ensure a high standard of conduct, including compliance with Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) requirements. Being part of Corridor Manchester and the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care devolution (GMdevo) supports our vision to be recognised nationally and internationally as a centre for research and innovation. Our location at the heart of Corridor Manchester, the city’s knowledge quarter, enables us to foster intimate relationships with our neighbours. This synergy is something that we are keen to share with others, and a number of biomedical organisations have already chosen Citylabs as their base. As host of the NIHR Clinical Research Network: Greater Manchester, and through our representation on the strategic and management boards of the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network, we are also helping to bridge the gap between regional NHS organisations, industry and academia to support the UK’s health and wealth agenda. We aim to provide an efficient and effective service that delivers on our customers’ needs whilst freeing them up to focus on their other deliverables. Our performance against National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) key performance indicators is good, but we continuously look for ways in which we can make it even easier for companies to work with us.
