The NIHR Manchester Musculoskeletal BRU has significant links with a full range of
industry partners, from international pharmaceutical companies, to medical technology and biotechnology companies and clinical research organisations working on specific research projects of mutual interest and engaging industry in consortia to help with our overall strategy of improving stratified and precision medicine within the BRU.

The NIHR Manchester Musculoskeletal BRU also collaborates with various UK based Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), helping to meet the NIHR objective of improving the health and wealth of the nation through research.

Working with UMIP (The University of Manchester Intellectual Property) and Trustech (innovation partner with Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), the BRU integrates with the innovation strategy, helping to turn world leading research into world-beating companies, products and services.

Specialises in the development and application of new diagnostic imaging tools
and imaging services.

Gelexir Healthcare LTD

Developing a Technology using a patented Double Cross linked microgel, designed to
be injected into patient’s spine discs to restore normal functioning and to alleviate Chronic Low Back Pain.

IMORPHICS LTD

Modelling and image analysis techniques to extract information from 3D medical images, with a particular emphasis on musculoskeletal disorders.

OPTASIA MEDICAL

Developed an automated tool to identify vertebral fractures from various different images (radiographs, DXA, CT) and developing software tools for early diagnosis and prediction of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis from images of various bones and joints.
