Innovation at MFT
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the largest NHS trust in the UK, home to 10 hospitals and the Manchester and Trafford Local Care Organisations (LCOs).
We are the largest provider of specialist services in the North West, delivering care to more than 750,000 people and employing more than 30,000 staff.
Part of Research and Innovation (R&I) at MFT, our Innovation Team works collaboratively with researchers and research delivery colleagues across our Trust’s hospitals and managed services. We support innovators to access support from their earliest idea, through late-stage research, evidence generation and, ultimately, implementation and roll-out across the NHS. This means we can get the best technologies to our patients, and improve outcomes, quicker.
Supporting the overarching R&I strategy, the Innovation Team’s vision is for MFT to be the UK’s leading NHS trust for innovation, and the healthcare innovation partner of choice for industry.
The MFT Innovation Team works across the following workstreams:
Strategic Partnerships – how we collaborate with partners, including industry and other clinical-academic centres, for the benefit of our Greater Manchester population.
Diagnostics and Technology Accelerator (DiTA) – our facility to support and catalyse the generation of high-quality evidence for new digital products, medical technologies (MedTech) and in-vitro diagnostics (IVDs) – lab-based tests that can detect disease and infections.
Intellectual Property (IP) and Innovation Management Service – how we harness our internal expertise, protect our IP and support the development of innovative ideas and products to improve healthcare
Innovation District – our unique ecosystem, comprising one of the largest clinical academic campuses in Europe.
Innovation Hub – our Health Foundation-supported centre of expertise to support the adoption of innovation across the Trust and beyond.
