CMFT chosen as Pharma Times’ Clinical Research Site of the Year 2017
Congratulations to Sasi Neelamekam and Anam Asif, Senior Trial Coordinators from CMFT who were successful at the 2017 Pharma Times Awards, bringing home the coveted Clinical Research Site of the Year award.
The Pharma Times Awards are designed to challenge, recognise and reward the talent and passion in the clinical research community. The competition offers a unique opportunity for those working in research to benchmark their skills against their peers and be judged by an independent steering committee of high-level industry leaders.
Sasi and Anam, from the Divisions of Medicine and Community, Clinical and Scientific Services and Dental, represented CMFT as finalists at the awards on May 19th in London. Applicants took part in a three stage process to get to the finals. Firstly, there was a rigorous application process which included an exam based on Good Clinical Practice; followed by an essay based question based on research management. Finally the two attended a face-to-face assessment day in Cambridge where they were given an hour to develop and deliver a presentation based on provided a scenario, to a panel of industry judges. The panel then asked a series of questions based on their presentation and further questions about the delivery of research at CMFT and how they overcome various issues.
From a shortlist of four teams, including two teams from University College London Hospital NHS Trust and one from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, CMFT was chosen as the overall winner. Sasi and Anam were awarded a trophy by Professor Nick Lemoine, National Medical Director, NIHR Clinical Research Network and were later given personal feedback from the judges and certificates.
Sasi and Anam said: “The whole process was invaluable, we felt it was a great journey in which we had a chance to assess our skill and performance, we thought outside the box and were deeply challenged. It proved to be a brilliant reflection of our high quality infrastructure within the delivery of research at CMFT.
“It has also helped raise awareness of the importance of research delivery roles and we were pleased to be recognised on an international platform of excellence. We would like like to thank everyone in the research department for the support and recognition during the process.”

I’d like to congratulate Sasi and Anam on their success at the Pharma Time Awards. The Clinical Research Site of the Year award is a testament to their hard work and passion for delivering high quality research, as well as recognising the fantastic research infrastructure we have at CMFT.
This is the second time CMFT has won Clinical Research Site of the Year, with the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital taking home the award in 2013.
