CMFT research staff shortlisted in Royal College of Nursing photography competition

A photograph depicting research culture here at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) has made the shortlist in a prestigious competition celebrating the centenary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

Clinical Photographer, Vanessa Lozano submitted the photo of Dr Manju Luckson, Quality Lead at the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and R&I Divisional Research Manager, to the Care on Camera competition.

The RCN is celebrating its 100^th anniversary this year and the photography contest is one of many projects planned to commemorate the milestone.

The competition aims to create a photographic record of nursing in the present day. There are two categories and the public get to vote for their favourite image in the ‘People’s Choice’ group.

Vanessa’s photo of Dr Luckson has been selected by the RCN’s judging panel as one of 50 shortlisted finalists. The image will be added to the RCN archive and will be part of a touring exhibition that will be shared with organisations around the UK.

Vanessa said: “Dr Luckson really wanted to illustrate how diverse the role of a nurse can be and how varied her job is from what people typically associate with nursing. It was a very interesting challenge to observe her at work and capture images that communicate such diversity, which I am happy to have achieved. We are both thrilled that the image has been shortlisted in the final 50 images of the competition.”

Dr Luckson added:

We wanted to exemplify the best and unique images which explore and promote research by a nurse in a diverse role. I hope that the shortlisted image will help people to understand that nursing is not just confined to clinics and wards, but comes in many different, exciting and challenging guises. This opportunity has given me a great chance to advocate my role in research.

The winners will be announced at RCN Congress in Glasgow in June.
