Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) has appointed Joanne Clague as its new Chief Operating Officer, starting on September 28th.

Joanne is currently Director of Operations for the Health and Life Sciences Faculty of The University of Liverpool, where she has built her career over the past 13 years, cementing her reputation as a dynamic leader in the academic and healthcare sector.

MAHSC is a partnership between The University of Manchester and six NHS organisations across Greater Manchester. Its key objective is to harness new discoveries and innovations in medical research and facilitate their implementation into patient care to improve health outcomes for the local population.

Joanne is also a Non-Executive Director of Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Head of Professional Services at The University of Liverpool’s Faculty of Life Sciences, where she is extensively involved in strengthening strategic alliances between her organisation, the NHS, national and international universities, industry, funding bodies and the student community.

Ian Greer, Director of MAHSC, welcomed Joanne to her new role: “I am delighted to appoint Joanne as our new Chief Operating Officer. The impressive breadth of her experience across academia and healthcare has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges that MAHSC faces.

Her recruitment comes at an exciting time for MAHSC, as we look to strategically align our ambitious programmes of work to harness the new potential brought about by Devo Manc and therefore further improve health outcomes across Greater Manchester.”

Joanne Clague said: “I am delighted by this opportunity to take on the role of MAHSC Chief Operating Officer and am really looking forward to meeting my new colleagues in both the University and the NHS.

“This is an exciting time to be joining MAHSC as we embark on the next stage of the journey, building on recent successes and working together to seize new opportunities offered by the changing landscape.

“By continuing to develop even stronger relationships, we can work together to fuel achievement of the MAHSC vision; to be a leading global centre for the delivery of innovative applied health research and education into healthcare.

“I hope to bring both experience and passion to the team, helping to transform and improve the health of the populations we serve, both in Greater Manchester and across the globe.”
