NIHR Rare Diseases Translational Research Collaboration 2016 Fellowship Scheme
The Rare Diseases Translational Research Collaboration’s (RD-TRC) 2016 Fellowship Scheme provides an award for students with an interest in rare disease research that need support to progress with their research studies.
Fellowships will be awarded to talented clinicians, allied health professionals and scientists able to contribute to the in-depth phenotyping of people with rare diseases.
The 2016 Fellowship Scheme will accelerate the training and experience of talented clinicians, scientists and allied health professionals who have already shown a keen interest in rare diseases. By gaining additional experience and data, successful applicants will be able to move on to new research opportunities and progress their careers.
Nature of award
Awards are for one year and the value of the award will cover appropriate costs of successful applicants’ research proposals, including subsistence and costs relating to the research.
Eligibility
- Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in the biomedical sciences or an equivalent qualification.
- Applicants must have previous research experience.
- Applicants must demonstrate an interest in rare disease research.
- Applicants must demonstrate that their research proposal is related to in-depth phenotyping of patients with rare diseases and has a potential for patient benefit.
- Applicants must be able to show institutional support from a host organisation capable of fulfilling the role of research sponsor and part of the NIHR infrastructure (i.e. a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, NIHR Biomedical Research Unit or NIHR Clinical Research Facility for Experimental Medicine).
- Applicants should have identified a senior member of their department who will support the application and evidence that they have engaged with the relevant RD-TRC Theme Lead or Deputy Theme Lead regarding the proposed project.
- Applicants who are currently completing a doctorate are welcome to apply but must have submitted their thesis before applying to the RD-TRC 2016 Fellowship scheme.
