Project funding opportunity

Women and Children Domain Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Opportunity to apply for project funding

MAHSC is a partnership between The University of Manchester and six NHS organisations in Greater Manchester. AHSC designation recognises international excellence across research, innovation, education and clinical service. It demonstrates the potential to excel in translational medicine; the process of bringing the best new discoveries to the care patients receive every day.

MAHSC has six areas of clinical focus (domains).  The domains work towards objectives that contribute to improving patient care. Importantly, each domain’s activity spans all of our partners.

What is the funding?

  • Maximum funding available per project is in the region of £10,000. We hope to fund 4-6 projects.
  • It is important that projects within MAHSC lead to improved patient outcomes. It is recognised that the small projects funded by these grants may not achieve direct benefit within a short timespan but the pathway to patient benefit should be clear.
  • Look at the interface between health and social care in line with Devo Manchester.
  • Cut across the speciality areas within the domain as well as across the MAHSC Partnership
  • Extend existing projects, if there is clear evidence that this will facilitate applications for external funding.
  • Form pilot projects which would lead to applications for high quality external funding.
  • Consider patient or public involvement/engagement
  • Involve collaborations with colleagues across the MAHSC partnership
  • Deal with challenges of particular importance to the Women and Children domain. Projects can address domain priority areas but are not restricted to the areas shown on the infographic on Page 1
  • The Women and Children domain strongly encourage applications that:
  • The Women and Children Domain is providing funding for innovative projects that identify and tackle a health problem across MAHSC.
  • Projects should come from one or more of the domain specialty areas:
  1. Women’s Health: Obstetrics
  2. Women’s Health: Gynaecology
  3. Genetics
  4. Adolescent and Young Adult Health
  5. Paediatrics
  • Projects should support domain specialties, aims and objectives across one of these areas:
  1. Translational Research
  2. Clinical Service
  3. Education and Training
  • Applications can consist of either or a combination of the following:
  1.  Funding to buy time to be released from clinical and other sessions in order for staff to have more time to dedicate to the project
  2. Consumables and other costs involved with the project.
