About Heart Disease

There are many different heart conditions and problems which can be referred to as ‘heart disease’. The term ‘cardiovascular disease’ is also used to describe any disease affecting the heart or blood vessels (circulation). Examples of heart disease include angina, heart attack, heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms.

There are lots of factors which can affect heart health including smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and physical inactivity. Find out more about heart disease, including how to manage it, on the British Heart Foundation website.

There are around seven million people living with heart disease in the UK. If you’re interested in finding out how you can take part in cardiovascular research studies, join Help BEAT Heart Disease. By signing up you could help to improve future generations’ healthcare.
