Translation Manchester invites you to their launch event on 12th February

Event details

Translation Manchester was established in 2018 as part of a Wellcome Trust initiative to help overcome the obstacles to conducting translational research in Greater Manchester, by bringing together a network of support, facilities and expertise to make the pathway to translation quicker and easier.

What do they do?

Translational Research Facilitators (TRFs), Drs Laura Ajram and Andrea Short aid investigators with ensuring translatability of ongoing projects, forging new and productive connections between academic researchers and the clinical workforce and leading two translational funding schemes- ‘Projects for Translation (P4T)’ and ‘Access to Expertise (A2E)’.

Translational research or ‘bench to bedside’ can encompass anything from engineering to apps, drug discovery to diagnostics. If your research requires support, funding or making new connections to move you one-step closer to patient benefit, Translation Manchester is here to help.

Why attend the launch?

Open to academic and clinical researchers within University of Manchester and associated NHS Trusts, this event will enable you to find out more about (and meet) the network of support available for translational researchers in Manchester, and provide a space to meet with like-minded researchers and form new collaborations.

We are delighted to announce that Professor Graham Lord, newly appointed Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, will be opening the event with his views on the importance of Translational Research for Manchester.

We will also be hearing from two translation champions, Professor Cath O’Neill (Professor of Translational Dermatology at UoM and CEO of SkinBioTx Ltd) and Professor Jacky Smith (Professor of Respiratory Medicine at UoM and Director of the NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility) who will be discussing the highlights (and hurdles!) of a career in translational research.

There will also be opportunities to meet the 30+ strong network of facilities and expertise available to support translational researchers, such as the Research Design Service, Business Engagement, Policy@Manchester, MMPathIC, Biostatistics, Strategic Funding and many more.

The Translation Manchester Team, including Professor Nigel Hooper (Vice Dean for Research and Innovation) and Translational Research Facilitators Drs Laura Ajram and Andrea Short will also be speaking about how they can support your research through this new initiative.
