Will Dixon is awarded Professorship of Digital Epidemiology by The University of Manchester
Congratulations to Will Dixon, BRU project lead, who has been appointed Professor of Digital Epidemiology at The University of Manchester.
Professor Dixon is Director of the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Epidemiology and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. He is also part of the NIHR Manchester Musculoskeletal BRU, leading on a project investigating the occurrence and impact of adrenal insufficiency in rheumatoid arthritis patients who have been treated with glucocorticoids.
Will’s research interests focus on clinical epidemiology, eHealth and mHealth. This includes the collection of research-quality data within routine clinical practice, innovation in large digital population studies and governance of digital health data. Projects of note include ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Pain’, the world’s first smartphone-based study to investigate the association of weather on symptoms of pain.
On his recent promotion Director of the BRU, Professor Ian Bruce said:
Congratulations to Will on his recent Professorship which is richly deserved. Will has been part of the BRU since it formed in 2012 and is an integral part of the research team. He has been an early advocate for the benefits of utilising eHealth in epidemiology, which enables efficient collection of high quality data for the study of disease.
