Show suite and hoardings taking shape for Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0

A new show suite and hoardings are the latest marketing activities underway to support Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0, as the development picks up momentum.

Located on our campus in the heart of Manchester’s Innovation District, Corridor Manchester, Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 will provide accommodation and support for health and medical technology companies. The show suite is located in the Blue Room in Citylabs 1.0 and the hoardings have been installed on Hathersage Road and on The Boulevard.

Citylabs, which provides biomedical centres of excellence, is a joint venture partnership between Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP) and CMFT.  The partners have already received a number of expressions of interest from potential occupiers after showcasing Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 through their targeted marketing efforts and presence at trade shows.

The planning application for Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0, which has recently been approved, will boost Manchester’s economy by more than £100m and bring 750 jobs to the city.  The development of an updated brochure profiling the benefits of being located at Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 is also in progress.

This joint partnership with MSP offers a fantastic opportunity for our patients, staff and our hospitals to further develop the successful Citylabs cluster.  Citylabs brings together NHS, university and industry partners to co-develop new healthcare technologies.

“By involving clinicians and patients from the start of the development and testing process, products are more likely to meet our future needs, and be rapidly adopted by the NHS and other health services across the world.”

The first phase, the £25m Citylabs 2.0 development will comprise 92,000 sq ft of Grade A lab and office space with construction work expected to begin late 2017 and completion expected in 2019.

The second phase, the £35m Citylabs 3.0 will span 128,000 sq ft and integrate the development of new buildings with the Old Saint Mary’s Hospital, an existing listed Victorian building. Construction is due to be completed in 2021.

The project includes the restoration of a currently unused former chapel on the site, which will be transformed into a café and dining area, with the potential for meeting room facilities too.

The scheme also includes extensive external landscaping and the provision of new gardens for the enjoyment of patients, visitors and Citylabs customers. It comprises both new build and redevelopment of the Old Saint Mary’s Hospital building on the corner of Oxford Road and Hathersage Road.
