Opportunities for schools and colleges
As part of our commitment to developing the next generation of researchers, we are participating in a nursing cadet placement programme.
Cadets join our team two days a week for five weeks and shadow research nurses, learning first-hand about nursing in clinical research. The cadets follow a structured educational programme which means they learn about all aspects of the facility. We have a structured work experience programme run through Central Manchester Hospitals, which gives school age students an insight into the work at the facility and the many different roles fulfilled by staff. If you are interested in coming to Manchester Clinical Research Facility (CRF) for a work experience placement, please contact Helen Boothby, who co-ordinates Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s work experience programme. The work experience and cadet programmes are supported by a range of learning materials and handbooks, which provide background and further details about activities undertaken at the CRF. The level of student participation and supervision can be tailored to the age and competence of the placement student.
We periodically run open days for visitors to find out more about our facilities. Several local schools have visited the CRF and the Public Programmes team to participate in discovery sessions giving them more information about what clinical research entails. If your school is interested in coming along to one of these open days, please contact us.
If you would like further information about our placements scheme, please contact Catherine George (Nurse Manager; +44 (0)161 9067500).
