- Hospital – Speciality: Manchester Local Care Organisation – SLT
- Study type: Questionnaires/Interviews
- Funder: Department of Education and Manchester Local Authority
Summary
The ECHO Intervention study seeks to test the effectiveness of a targeted intervention (ECHO) on the communication skills of children under 24 months with significant language difficulties and social communication difficulties. It also seeks to evaluate if there is any noticeable effect of the targeted intervention on the parent-child interaction and parent/caregiver wellbeing.
The study will employ quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to better understand the intervention processes that are acceptable to parents/caregivers and baseline and endpoint outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness.
Participant group
Parents/caregivers with children under 24 months scoring Red on WellComm Language Screen (indicating significant language difficulties) and scoring High Likelihood for autism on the Social Attention and Communication Surveillance (SACS-R) (Barbaro et al., 2022) tool in the Manchester Local Authority area.
Participant approach
Participants will be identified by Speech and Language Therapists in the Early Years Communication and Language Team who will identify suitable recruits at initial appointments. Suitable recruits will then be approached with a Participant Information Sheet, and recruitment will take place at the parent/caregiver’s home, or another suitable location if preferred.
